Fashion Sketching By Patricia L. Rowe

I love old books on fashion so when I came across Patricia L. Rowe's
"Shorthand Fashion Sketching"
 ...I had to get it!

There's an Introduction written in 1959 from Rowe while living in Captiva,Florida. She explains how the pages of the book is designed to teach in the quickest possible time, by the shortest possible method, how to sketch fashions in the most practical way.
Lessons include The Basic Fashion Figure-Front, Three Quarter View and Smaller Size. Section II describes The Figure in Motion. Other sections include, Basic fashions from blouses and necklines ,collars, sleeves, basic skirts to hemlines, hats and coats. It concludes with fabrics, textures and patterns, techniques in pen, brush and pencil. I loves the historic costume section. Take a peek........

Rachel's Doll Rescue

 This is Elizabeth.

 She was 50 cents.

I think she is the cutest thing. Her red bow makes me smile and she is really sporting those black shoes. Her hair is priceless.

She reminds me of my daughter Julia when she was a little girl.

Have you ever found a doll and wondered her story? Where she came from? What places she visited ? Who loved her? Why she was alone?

I find myself doing that with people.

The little girl in us growing into women....

Do we have a story of  wonderful romance, travel, family and friends ?

Tales of adventure, mystery, suspense and drama?

Rich with family traditions, good food and company?

   What is your story?

Rings,Rings and more Rings

A latest yard sale find:
5 Sterling Silver rings.
The story goes......Maria's cousin wanted to get rid of her jewelry to make room for more. I scored with gently worn rings for $5 each!

This was definitely one of my Wow Factor finds.

Shoes

I guess a girl can't have too many shoes ???? This collection at last weeks yard sale was practically new! With my shoe size being a 4 1/2 it's so hard finding grown up shoes. I walked away gracefully-little feet and all.

Lemonade Stand

I love the entrepreneurial spirit at a yard sale. This cute lemonade stand was created by little Katie (age 6). Very camera shy she opted out of having her picture taken. Can't say that I blame her, who wants their picture taken by some crazy lady at a yard sale. Her politeness and gracious demeanor was, I have to say, refreshing. I lost count of how many times she thanked me after my purchase. Awe, if she were only old enough to give customer service lessons at local retail stores.

Pretty Plates and more

Every once in away I see a "pattern" of sorts at my yard sale finds. I can go to 10 different places and find a "theme". This past weekend I  found pretty plates, a rose pillow , ash tray and wine bottle topper from HOTEL de PARIS  8,Boulevard de la Madeleine Paris ,a  candle bird cage and Paris for Harriett reusable Memento Box.

Thank you http://moderncountrystyle.blogspot.com/ for hosting a linky party to define our blogs! What a great idea! Well, here it goes!
RACHEL'S JUNK IN THE TRUNK BLOG DEFINITION:
Yard Sale Junkie  taking it a day at a time looking for the wow factor. There’s plenty of junk in my trunk after a yard sale adventure and of course after a whole bag of lime flavored chips. I am a 47 year old Mother to Julia & Rodney and wanna be Domestic Cougar Goddess to Tito. I am an Operations Manager for a thriving Construction Company named of all things, Tool Time Construction.
I am often asked about the T.V. show and no I am not the Tool Time Girl. I wish I could prance around in shorts with a Makita Drill in my hand all day long. Yet, reality hits and there’s payroll, audits, scheduling, time cards, H/R duties, email research and keeping our clients happy. With the stress of the week behind me, I venture out every Saturday morning to the local yard sales. I find great deals and even when I don’t, it relaxes me. I guess it’s better than sedatives and hitting the bottle right?

Rachel’s Junk in the Trunk Blog is a snap shot of my life unexpected .Things in my life swirl just as much as they swirl in my head (bi polar? or just a busy working Mom?). I love everything and want to do it all which is reflected in my blogging style. I love shabby chic with a touch of Gothic & Gypsy. I wear thumb rings with business casual attire & heels. Funny, my clothing and decorating style swirl along side me like partners in crime. I invite you in to enjoy some “blogging time”.
